Clive Thompson, author of “CODERS: The Making of a New Tribe and the Remaking of the World,” recently compiled an entry into LinkedIn’s Weekend Essay highlighting the innovative work of Bit Source.
The title of the essay submission is: “How this Kentucky startup turned coal miners into coders.”
The story of Bit Source, a Pikeville, Ky.-based Google Certified Agency, has been documented globally. It has also brought proof to the concept that those who have been displaced from the coal and coal-related industries have the critical thinking and problem-solving skills that are necessary to thrive in a global and digital economy.
“Bit Source is a remarkable story that is continuing to be written,” said Jared Arnett, executive director of Shaping Our Appalachian Region, Inc. (SOAR). “Lynn (Parrish) and Rusty (Justice) were brave enough to do what some thought was a risk. But Rusty and Lynn had experienced and continue to experience the ingenuity of those working in the coal industry. They simply applied that ingenuity into the digital economy.”
Bit Source is an East Kentucky Partner of SOAR and provides graphic design, web, and video production services to SOAR.
