A New Partnership Bringing Skilled Trades Opportunities to Eastern Kentucky

Posted on 22 hours ago
Build a Career, Earn While you Learn

SOAR is partnering with the Tri-State Building Trades Unions and its affiliated unions to expand access to careers in the skilled trades across Eastern Kentucky.

The first opportunity to connect through this partnership will take place on Tuesday, April 28, when the Tri-State Building Trades Unions will join SOAR at the EKY Talent Network Hiring Event in Grayson.

One Event, Multiple Pathways

This hiring event will bring together multiple opportunities in one place.

Job seekers will have the chance to connect with:

  • WECTEC, a subsidiary of Westinghouse, hiring for nuclear outage work and other energy-related roles
  • The Tri-State Building Trades Unions, providing information on apprenticeship programs and careers in the skilled trades

This creates a unique opportunity to explore both:

  • Immediate, travel-based employment opportunities
  • Long-term career pathways through training and apprenticeships

If you’re interested in working with WECTEC, this is also a chance to learn how your skills can translate into a career in the trades.

Careers in the Skilled Trades

The Tri-State Building Unions represent a wide range of industries, including:

  • Boilermakers
  • Carpenters and Millwrights
  • Cement Masons
  • Electrical Workers
  • Painters
  • Operating Engineers
  • Laborers
  • Bricklayers
  • Plumbers, Pipefitters, and HVAC
  • Roofers
  • Sheet Metal Workers
  • Teamsters
  • Ironworkers
  • Insulators and Asbestos Workers

These careers offer strong wages, benefits, and long-term stability.

Earn While You Learn

Through apprenticeship programs, individuals can:

  • Earn a paycheck from day one
  • Learn on the job
  • Build a career without taking on student debt

For experienced workers, there are also opportunities to move directly into the workforce or accelerate through training programs.

Join Us on April 28

This event is free and open to the public, and all are encouraged to attend.
