Your Brand, Your Product: Join SOAR & USPTO for a Patent Bootcamp!

Posted on 2 years ago

Your brand. Your product and service. Your logo. Your colors.

It is all yours, but is it protected?

If it isn’t, it can easily be taken away!

That’s why we’ve partnered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) to host a FREE One Day Patent  Bootcamp on November 16, 2023, at the Gateway Area Development District in Morehead, Ky.

SOAR is hosting this workshop along with our partners the Kentucky Small Business Development Center, Mountain Association, Kentucky Intellectual Property Alliance, and SKED.

The Bootcamp is ideal for entrepreneurs to learn the best practices to protect their ideas, grow their businesses, and protect their brands.

Do you know what makes this boot camp even better? Breakfast and Lunch will be provided, and they’ll be plenty of time to network with other entrepreneurs from across the region making this Bootcamp an event you will not want to miss!

This is an in-person, single-day workshop for entrepreneurs, small businesses, and inventors covering tools, techniques, and resources to understand the patent application process.

The event provides a scaffolded approach to understanding patents and intellectual property (IP) rights, the importance of claims in a patent application, and the various patent application requirements.

It also includes:

  • How to search prior art
  • How to properly draft claims
  • Understanding the application forms
  • How to use the Patent Center to file electronically

There’ll be plenty of question-and-answer sessions throughout the day, plus a discussion of free resources available through the USPTO.

Reserve your spot today!

How it all Started: A Trademark Bootcamp

SOAR hosted the first-ever Trademark Bootcamp in partnership with USPTO, KY SBDC, Mountain Association, SKED, and KY Highlands.

Not only was this the first Kentucky boot camp, but it was also the 4th Bootcamp in the United States!

With a goal of 8-10 people, we were excited to welcome 16 total participants to the event from several Kentucky counties and a few states.

Since the event:

  • one startup has filed for their trademark,
  • while a couple of others are in the process.

Director of Business and Innovation, Sabrina McWhorter stated, “This event provided a great learning opportunity for small businesses curious about the world of trademarks. During the event, small businesses were engaging with one another, and finding ways to solve one another’s problems. They came to learn and left with a new network of friends. We are grateful for our partners and the USPTO, and look forward to future events.”
