Nearly 1,000 students from across Appalachia Kentucky and the Tri-State recently gathered at the Indiana/Kentucky/Ohio Regional Council for Carpenters headquarters in Grayson to participate in the State Building Trades Unions Open House. The event is just one part of the trades; National Apprenticeship Week, which seeks to make students aware of career opportunities in the trades.

There were over 1,000 visitors over the course of the day, including around 800 students from local and school areas.

Those schools included East Carter, West Carter, Carter County Career and Technical, Lee County, Wolf County, Lawrence County, Boyd County, Russell, Fairview, Greenup County, Elliott County, Martin County, Paul Blazer, Lewis County, Raceland, Morgan County, Bracken County, Robertson County, Mason County, Scioto County Career and Technical, Western Pike County (Ohio), and the Frenchburg, Whitney Young, and Carl D. Perkins Job Corps, as well as ACTC.

It wasn’t just career opportunities in the carpentry trades that students were being made aware of, though. The union worked with their colleagues in other trades to give the students a broad look at the types of jobs they might pursue.
