Let’s look at what Appalachia has to offer going into the month of March.
Second-ever Appalachian Nursing Academy
We are happy to announce that we will, once again, be hosting our Appalachian Nursing Academy!
Do you know of an incoming junior or senior high school student that is interested in healthcare?
This program might be right for them!
Our FREE two-week academy offers:
- Housing at the cUniversity of Pikeville
- Three meals a day
- Interactive programming with workshops, presentations, shadowing, mentorship, tours, etc.
- $1,500 scholarship to further their education
- Trips to see and experience regional attractions and activities
The requirements?
- The student must reside in one of Kentucky’s 54 Appalachian counties
- They are incoming juniors or seniors at your high school
- They have no prior experience related to nursing – all we ask is their interest!

Breaks Interstate Park Hosting a Job Fair
Breaks Interstate Park will be hosting a job fair for seasonal employment on Saturday, March 4, 2023.
Park officials say that there are a variety of jobs available this season.
Management staff will be on hand to help fill out applications and provide details about working for the park.
In addition to the job fair, park rangers will also have an immediate job opening for a reservation specialist. If you are interested in that position, please call 276-865-4413, ext 0, and one of their staff will schedule an interview.

Summer Policy Program for College Students
KyPolicy Summer Policy Institute will bring together students from across the state to participate in a multi-day exploration of Kentucky’s top policy issues through a combination of seminars, panel discussions, and workshops.
Students will stay at the state capital at the historic Kentucky State University, build their network with Kentucky’s public policy professionals, gain confidence in their own advocacy, and gain a general knowledge of:
- How the state’s budget and tax system affect Kentucky citizens
- How to use data to advocate for policies that build a thriving future
- Policy issues hindering and helping Kentuckians today
- The legislative process in Kentucky
Students will be paired with a KyPolicy expert mentor based on their policy interest areas and walk away from the program with a deeper understanding of that issue and a finished project.
Tuition is free.
The dates for the program are June 25 – 28, 2023

Applications are now being accepted for Kentucky’s SBIR/STTR Matching Funds Award Program!
The Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs provide non-dilutive capital through federal grants and contracts for innovative technologies while allowing founders to maintain the intellectual property, positioning them to receive private follow-on funding.
Kentucky’s SBIR/STTR Matching Funds offers additional non-dilutive capital on a competitive basis to recipients of Phase I and II Federal SBIR/STTR grants and contracts that are for-profit companies based in or willing to relocate to Kentucky.
