Dataseam’s ARC Power Grant helps STEM recruitment at MSU

Posted on 5 years ago

MOREHEAD, Ky.—Morehead State will be able to recruit more STEM students thanks to a grant awarded to one of its affiliates by the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC).

The $1.5 million grant from the ARC Partnerships for Opportunity and Workforce and Economic Revitalization (POWER) Initiative was awarded to the Kentucky Dataseam Initiative Inc. supports education, research and economic development in the Commonwealth. At MSU, Dataseam will use a portion of the ARC POWER Grant to help MSU identify and recruit students into Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education programs and STEM careers.

Amanda Holbrook, ground station manager at the SSC, said Dataseam has a solid partnership with MSU.

“Dataseam and the Space Science Center have a long history of working together,” Holbrook said. “Dataseam is focused on increasing representation, particularly female representation, in STEM fields such as aerospace and IT-related fields. They have provided computers and scholarships to Morehead State over the years and have held multiple ‘Space Movie’ events at the SSC.” She added Dataseam also brings groups of students to MSU for tours and activities, which also enhances recruiting efforts.
