Many employers are dealing with a lack of workers. On top of that, many vacant jobs require some level of short-term training.
We don’t see this as a problem. It is an opportunity.
That’s why we have partnered with the SkillUp Coalition to provide a centralized location where job seekers can view jobs. But here’s the twist: You work backward from the employment opportunities from the available jobs to understand the credentialing and training needed.
Eastern Kentucky Training Catalog
The Eastern Kentucky Training Catalog provides all the information you need. The jobs, the training, and how — and where — you can get the short-term training at little to no cost.
It’s a place where you select and prepare for career paths with local organizations that need qualified employees. These organizations offer good-paying jobs, such as healthcare, logistics, agritech, and remote work. Some of the local training providers include:
- Pikeville Medical Center
- Big Sandy Community and Technical College
- Maysville Community and Technical College
- Galen College of Nursing
- Hazard Community and Technical College
- Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College
Jobs now and into the future
This partnership is more important than ever as Eastern Kentucky job growth is expected to increase by nearly 10,000 jobs over the next five years. This includes thousands of jobs in the healthcare field. The Catalog is another tool we are using to combat this specific challenge. We also launched Healthcare Career Pathway fairs across the region to connect students with employers and training providers. In June, we launched the first-ever Appalachian Nursing Academy at the University of Pikeville.
Earlier this year, we launched the Eastern Kentucky Healthcare Action Plan to provide a pathway to fill the healthcare jobs vacant currently and in the years to come.
