Registered Apprenticeships 101: From Confusion to Clarity

Virtual Lunch & Learn

Hosted by SOAR Innovation in partnership with the Kentucky Office of Industry and Apprenticeship Services, with support from the Appalachian Regional Commission’s POWER Initiative.

Registered Apprenticeship is one of the most effective workforce development tools available today — but it’s also one of the most misunderstood.

Join SOAR and the Kentucky Office of Industry and Apprenticeship Services for a free virtual Lunch & Learn designed to make Registered Apprenticeship easier to understand and easier to put into action.

Whether you’re an employer interested in building a stronger talent pipeline, an organization supporting apprenticeship programs, or a workforce partner helping connect people to careers, this session will walk you through what Registered Apprenticeship is, how it works, and how your organization can get involved.

Bring your lunch and your questions. You’ll leave with practical answers, clear next steps, and connections to the people who can help.

What You’ll Learn

During this session, you’ll gain:

  • A clear understanding of Registered Apprenticeship and how the federally recognized “earn while you learn” model differs from internships and informal training programs.
  • A look at how apprenticeship programs work, including on-the-job training (OJT), related training instruction (RTI), mentorship, and apprentice enrollment.
  • Step-by-step guidance for getting started, whether you’re launching a program, becoming an employer partner, or serving as an intermediary sponsor.
  • Ways to connect with Kentucky’s Registered Apprenticeship system and existing workforce resources available throughout the region.
  • Direct access to Kentucky Registered Apprenticeship Consultants, who provide free, hands-on technical assistance to employers and sponsors.
  • A live Q&A where you can get your specific questions answered by professionals who work with Registered Apprenticeship programs every day.
Leave With Clarity

You don’t need to leave the session as an apprenticeship expert.

You will leave prepared to confidently explain Registered Apprenticeship to an employer, potential apprentice, or community partner — and know exactly who to contact when you’re ready to take the next step.

Who Should Attend?

This session is designed for workforce development professionals, business owners and employers, nonprofit and community organizations, community colleges and education partners, economic development professionals, and anyone across Appalachia interested in building or partnering with a Registered Apprenticeship program.
