EKCEP awarded $1.75 million grant to assist laid-off coal miners

HAZARD, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky Concentrated Employment Program, Inc. (EKCEP), a Grassroots Partner of Shaping Our Appalachian Region, Inc. (SOAR), was a awarded $1.75 million grant to help laid-off coal miners in eastern Kentucky.

The grant is from the United States Department of Labor.

“EKCEP has a demonstrated track record of collaborating to address the complex challenges facing our workers across the region,” said Jared Arnett, executive director of SOAR. “This funding will continue the efforts to retrain those displaced from the coal industry for new opportunities.”
