5 Reasons to Attend the Country Music Highway Tribute Show

Posted on 2 years ago

The wait is over! The launch of Shaping Our Appalachian Region’s Country Music Highway Tribute Show is here. On Saturday, June 1 the streets of downtown Russell will be transformed into a showcase of the Country Music Highway’s future stars, along with food and arts and crafts vendors, activities for children, and more.

This year’s Country Music Highway Tribute Show is presented by Addiction Recovery Care and Kentucky Power. Events such as this would not be possible without the generosity of our presenting sponsors and event sponsors.

Why should you bring your favorite chair, put on your boots, and attend? I’m glad you asked. Here are 5 quick reasons why.

1 | It’s Free

The Country Music Highway is a FREE event and is family-friendly.

Perhaps you have never been to Russell. Have you ever attended events with limited parking and no shuttles? We know it is frustrating.

That’s why we’ve created an interactive parking map outlining the various FREE parking options in downtown Russell. We are also providing FREE shuttle service to and from Russell High School from 3:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.

2 | A Jam-Packed Lineup

There’s not a stretch of highway on the planet that has produced more country stars per square mile than the Country Music Highway.

We are committed to seeing that continue.

Who knows… Someone you see today could be at the Grand Ole Opry or selling out stadiums in the near future.

We’ve got a great lineup of music, starting at 11 a.m. and going long into the night.

Bobby and Teddi Cyrus are our headliners. Bobby is the cousin of Flatwoods native Billy Ray Cyrus.

Other performers include:

  • Joe Clark
  • Johnathon Cox
  • Cory Michael Harris
  • Taylor Hughes
  • August Roots
  • Mattox Hale
  • Mason Adkins
  • Casey Hensley
  • Will Case
  • Possum Up a Gum Stump

Want to take a listen to our lineup? We’ve created a Country Music Highway Tribute Show Spotify Playlist.

3 | Lots of Local Food and Arts and Crafts

Come hungry. We have more than a dozen local food vendors joining us on Saturday. Smokin’ J’s Rib and Brewhouse has partnered with the Country Music Highway Tribute Show to donate a portion of its proceeds to benefit organizations supporting the arts along the Highway.

Other food vendors scheduled to be on-site are:

  • Hillbilly Hibachi
  • Jenkins Concessions
  • T&C Lemonade
  • Fannie’s Concessions
  • Connie Jo’s Concessions
  • M&J’s Rolling Cafe
  • Hangry Halls
  • Street Shawarma
  • Chuy’s Mexican
  • 606 Snowcones
  • Maggie’s Doghouse
  • Matney’s Wood-Fired Pizza
  • Smokin J’s BBQ
  • Triple J’s Catering

Local favorites, such as Eridanus Brewery, Ghostly Gourmet, and Dragonfly Outdoor Cafe will be open throughout the day as well!

We also have more than a dozen arts and crafts vendors, handcrafting unique items. Also, enjoy Russell’s vibrant downtown full of unique shops and boutiques.

4 | Bid on Memorabilia from the Stars

The Silent Auction is a favorite of the Country Music Highway Tribute Show. We’ve worked with our sponsors, as well as many stars of the Country Music Highway to auction off experiences, memorabilia, and more.

Here’s a glance at what we have available:

  • Two Tickets to Bluegrass Nights at the Ryman in Nashville with Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder on July 25 in Nashville, TN.
  • Autographed handmade Troublesome Creek Mandolin by Ricky Skaggs.
  • Autographed Wynonna Judd guitar.
  • Autographed Billy Ray Cyrus guitar.
  • Autographed basketball by University of Kentucky men’s basketball coach Mark Pope.
  • Autographed football by University of Kentucky football coach Mark Stoops.
  • Pair of tickets to FoxFire Music and Arts Festival.

Check back! Items are being added weekly.

5 | Jam with Mountain Music Exchange

We’ve teamed up with Mountain Music Exchange to have instruments on-site. Whether you are interested in an instrument or want to grab a guitar and join in an impromptu jam, we would love to have you join us!

Mountain Music Exchange will also be giving away a guitar autographed by the entire Russell show lineup. The winner will be announced before Bobby and Teddi Cyrus’ performance.

You do not have to be present to win. You can enter to win HERE.
