City Pool Hall in Monticello serves up a unique burger experience

Posted on 6 years ago

Nothing like rounding out the week in Wayne County. Local attorney Frank Phillips, who is a part of the Wayne County Industrial Development Authority (IDA) and Wayne County Judge-Executive Mike Anderson, invited me down to discuss a marketing and communications strategy for the IDA.

SOAR Innovation Business and Innovation Champion Tal Jones joined me for the day-long adventure, which started in Monticello, the county seat of Wayne County, and ended over in Clinton County, where I had a “Back to the Future” moment when I put in the address to the Clinton County Visitors Center only to see the current time at 1:46 p.m. and my arrival set for 12:15 p.m. — Clinton County is in the central time zone. I should have taken a photo.

The Pool Hall in Monticello serves up its famous Pool Hall Burger daily. Everything on this burger is mustard, ketchup, and salt.

Ok, back to the burger.

When Frank invited me down, he mentioned a working lunch with a Pool Hall burger. Some may have balked at that culinary offer. I was in hook, line, and sinker. You see, I came into this burger offering 1 for 1 with burgers associated to pool halls, or in this case room. Billy Ray’s Restaurant in Prestonsburg (Floyd County) has an incredible Pool Room Burger.

And the Pool Hall Burger in Monticello delivered. I got everything on the burger — everything here is mustard, ketchup, and… drum roll, please, salt. If you are looking at one more unique fact to bring you across the finish line, here it is: The hamburger is made fresh just up the road at Foothills Meats and delivered daily.

So, if you are in Monticello, go to the Pool Hall for something so good and yet so simple.

Oh, and take it from me, you can’t just have one. Start with two.
